CUSTOM KITCHEN
Interior Design Project Background
A piece of modern interior design was called for to make a spacious bright kitchen with room to cook, eat, chat and relax for a family of five.
The Results
A bright, light kitchen with clean lines, lots of storage, and plenty of space was designed to meet the family’s needs. The cream of the silk lacquered units is offset by a lime green backsplash [not pictured]. This was selected after the completion of the kitchen, when the family had lived with a sample for a while. “You don’t have to do everything all at once,” says the interior designer. “And with bold colour choices, it can be a good idea to wait a few weeks and see how much you really love them.” A cosy corner was also designed, with a wall-mounted fire, TV and sofa, so that the kitchen becomes a place to hang out – the real heart of the home.
Practicalities
- The existing extension was found to have no foundations, so the team had to start from scratch.
- The kitchen was custom made to the designer’s brief in Italy. It fits in with the contours of the space perfectly.
- The central island unit includes a pull-up socket, and a wine cooler.
- Extra tall units provide even more storage.
- An induction hob is built in.
- The floor is tiled in a 30×60 polished porcelain tile, to continue the light mood.
The “business end” of the kitchen is light, bright and functional. Custom-made in Italy, it has been designed to maximise storage and utility while maintaining an elegant feel.

The island unit incorporates a wine cooler, and rack for red wines.
Surfaced in Silestone, the counter tops are heat resistant and wipe clean. The counter top includes a pull-up power socket.

Shaker-style is updated with this framed, silk-lacquered finish.
