DREAM KITCHEN

Project Background

Part of a renovation of the entire house, this kitchen is a new extension to a Period home. The owners, a family of five, needed a space for family meals, and informal entertaining. This was done as part of their home renovation project.

The Results

Creating a new extension to a Victorian home, the designer was keen to maintain a sense of flow between the original part of the house and the new, without giving the kitchen an “old fashioned” treatment. This was achieved by mixing contemporary elements with original features in the older rooms, and making sure the proportions of the new room, its window and door features, as well as its colour palette, were in keeping with the rest of the house. The kitchen is a vital part of how the owners live, so function and feel was key.

Practicalities

  • The cream lacquered kitchen is by Comprex, available from the BTHD design studio.
  • Handleless units, illuminated cupboards, and a smooth Silestone worktop create a bright airy atmosphere.
  • While the feel of this area is highly contemporary, the proportions, colour palette and classic elegance enables it to blend seamlessly with the rest of the house.
  • The single storey extension accommodates a large modern kitchen, utility room and WC.
  • The large wooden table, sourced by the owners, makes this a family room.
  • The extension has Aluclad doors and windows. The finish is robust and yet blends in with the period qualities of the house.
  • Roller blinds can be closed for a more intimate evening mood.

The lacquered kitchen is by Comprex, available from the BTHD design studio. Soft mauve paint on the walls is cool and elegant. Handleless units, illuminated cupboards, and a smooth Silestone worktop create a bright airy atmosphere.

Illuminated glass-fronted units become a feature as well as simply storage.

A gas hob, and built-in oven, microwave and coffee maker makes this elegant kitchen a real workhorse – necessary for a family of five.
