FAMILY KITCHEN

Project Background

Part of an interior design renovation of the entire house, this kitchen was formerly in a dated, tired, shaker style. The client, a bachelor with a love of entertaining, wanted a kitchen design that was both a well design, and yet functional kitchen.

The Results

A sleek, chic, grey, gadget-filled kitchen gives the owner the space he needs to cook, relax and entertain. “I went for an industrial feel, using stainless steel and a grey veneer with a hint of pink”, explains the interior designer. “It gives a sense of professionalism to the look – making it feel like a chef’s kitchen rather than simply a cook’s. And as the client loves to cook, I knew he was going to use it!” As the homeowner is also a wine buff, a wine larder, complete with pullout wine racks has been incorporated.

Practicalities

  • The kitchen is masculine and practical.
  • French doors lead to a decked area for al fresco breakfasting or dining on warm evenings.
  • Incorporated gadgets include a Franke SWISS-PRO Pull Out Tap, and drawer-style dishwasher with eco function.
  • An American-style fridge freezer is a statement design piece.
  • Rich brown tones, present of the roller blinds and stools, work to warm the greys of the cabinets.
  • A dining area leads from the kitchen, separated materially by a change in flooring – from a natural finish glazed porcelain tile, to a solid limed oak.

Comprex units in Mink veneer with elements of stainless steel create an industrial look. The floor area is large, broken up with an island unit.

The owner’s love of gadgets is met by the Franke SWISS-PRO Pull Out Tap, plus the drawer-style dishwasher, where the eco function makes it practical as well as stylish.

An American-style fridge freezer with ice maker continues the industrial feel. The Neff Domino hobs caters for a choice of gas and induction cooking.

Finished in a walnut veneer wood, the dining area is the perfect foil for the greys of the kitchen. The table and sideboard were sourced from Spain.
