a kitchen extension

The overall brief was to extend the old kitchen to create an open, airy and stylish kitchen, dining and family space. The existing kitchen had support beams and columns which made the space very disjointed with no sense of flow. It was critical therefore to design an open plan area with generous glazing to maximise views onto the garden and light into the house. It was equally important to ensure that new extension was in proportion with the main house and did not project too far into the garden.

The matt cream, lacquered, framed kitchen accentuates the bright clean design of this extension. Taking advantage of the high ceilings, additional storage space was created by designing extra tall kitchen cabinets. Other discreet features of this kitchen include a tall pull out larder, integrated appliances and a pull out socket. The non-porous, polished silestone worktop in Blanco Dune adds to the bright neutral palette. The floor treatment for the un-interrupted flow of space is a 30 x 60 polished porcelain tile that lent itself perfectly to the under floor heating that replaced the many radiators that were in the previous area. This was carried through to the entrance hall to create a seamless flow throughout the ground floor.

Other works included a fully fitted out utility room which houses the laundry, airing facilities and a separate WC.

a victorian home

In the entrance hall, tired blue carpet was replaced with a sophisticated limestone tile with a black marble insert. These were laid in a traditional victorian pattern to flatter the style of the house.

Major challenges were faced in the restoration of the 3 upstairs bathrooms. When stripped out it was discovered that the joists were patched together over the years and a considerable amount of unforeseen work had to be done to ensure that there was no movement in the tiles. Each bathroom was then carefully prepared and finished to the client's specification. The wall hung WC suites enhance the sense of space, allowing for easy cleaning and together with the porcelain tiles and chrome mixers create a stylish and modern look in each bathroom.

Other works included the refurbishment of a boys and girls bedroom, master bedroom and study. Paint colours for each room are in muted tones by Colortrend and Farrow & Ball. The original fireplace in the drawing room was dipped and restored to its former splendor while contemporary chairs and ottoman were designed and custom made to compliment the clients own sofas and antique furniture. The style of mixing old and new works particularly well here, using modern furniture in a period setting.
A thirteen week project saw this beautiful victorian house restored to its former glory while adding a 21st century contemporary twist. The overall brief was to sensitively refurbish and modernise this wonderful period house. As well as the restoration of the house the works also included a one story extension to the rear to accommodate a modern kitchen fit out, new utility and WC.

It was fundamental to the client to design a functional yet stylish kitchen. The cream lacquered handleless kitchen is designed to look spacious and uncrowded yet blends in effortlessly with the rest of the house. The large porcelain tiles and Silestone worktop gives a bright airy atmosphere in this family area.

a modern apartment

This relatively new apartment had been rented for a number of years and was looking somwhat tired, it was originally 2 apartments that the client had converted into one. Our brief was to make the two apartments into one and take advantage of thje wonderful aspect the apartment enjoyed over Dublin Bay by orienting the living and dining space to take in the great views while thoroughly modernising the space. Over a period of eight weeks we completely rewired to allow for a new lighting plan and sound system. Stripped out, replumed and refitted 3 bathrooms, fitted new wardrobes to two bedrooms and created a fabulous dressing room in the third.

We refinished the existing oak floor in a highly polished ebony, while carpeting the bedrooms and corridors. Entertaining was a big part of our clients life so a glamorous dining and living room was very important, so we sourced the largest marble top table it is possible to cut and ship and hung a beautiful crystal chandelier over it to create a great centre piece. We hung floor to ceiling voile on all the living and dining area windows to create privacy yet let all the lights peep in from the bay below.

The finish was polished and modern yet comfortable, a great place to live and play.
